Project 52 - Week 52 | Photographer's Choice

Project 52 - Week 52 | Photographer's Choice

While this year (as all years) went by quickly, I feel like a lot has happened. I wanted to take time in this last Project 52 prompt post to reflect on all the great things that have happened, all the changes made, and the things I’m most excited about. I do this as it was -3 degrees when I woke up this morning.

    Project 52 - Week 41 | Step Back

    Project 52 - Week 41 | Step Back

I know that I have been behind on this photo challenge that I dedicated myself to, Project 52, but I promise you that I have been slowing catching up. While this post is a little out of order, I really wanted to get it on the blog since it’s been on my mind. Skipping ahead to week 41 with the prompt of “Step Back,” I knew the perfect example of what I was going to capture.

    Project 52 - Week 38 | Orange

    Project 52 - Week 38 | Orange

Orange is one of my least favorite colors, personally. I don’t think it looks good on me at all. However, right before I moved, a friend gave me a dress she no longer wanted and I loved how it looked and felt on me. It made me feel beautiful, empowered, strong, and just overall amazing. The only orange thing I own just had to be the photo I took for this week’s color prompt.

    Project 52 - Week 36 | Shadows

    Project 52 - Week 36 | Shadows

There are times that I have during my day job as a graphic designer that I get to utilize my photography skills, and this week I got to travel to a University to photograph students there. I mean, that is something right up my alley. Though, on this crisp autumn morning, I found the perfect opportunity to capture this week’s Project 52 prompt: Shadows.

Project 52 - Week 35 | Shoot from the Hip

Project 52 - Week 35 | Shoot from the Hip

I seriously love that this week’s prompt is Shoot From the Hip - not only because I did the challenge quite literally (my camera was literally ON my hip), but because I’ve done this before for my own challenge. That time I had walked around downtown Chicago and just kept shooting without looking through my viewfinder.

    Project 52 - Week 33 | Leading Lines

    Project 52 - Week 33 | Leading Lines

In college, I had to learn about all the basics of art and composition. I rolled my eyes especially at composition because sometimes it is just unintentional. Surely artists don’t think that hard about the rule of thirds or Leading Lines, but the more I studied it, the more I wanted to have those elements prosper in my stuff. So, this week’s prompt for the Project 52 challenge was a perfect time for shooting intentionally.

    Project 52 - Week 32 | One Love

    Project 52 - Week 32 | One Love

Now that I’m back in Illinois, I really get to spend some quality time with my parents and enjoy what they do. Living away from home for 4 years has given me a good reset on valuing different portions of my life that I took for granted. With the One Love prompt we were given this week for the Project 52 challenge I’m in, I slowed down a little bit to listen to my heart.

    Project 52 - Week 31 | Close Up

    Project 52 - Week 31 | Close Up

My life has been a whirlwind these past few days and looking into the future. I just finished my time serving on jury duty, I’m about to leave for vacation, and I’m packing my apartment up to move to Illinois for a while. However, I was able to grab my camera and snap a few Close Up photos for this week’s Project 52 prompt.

    Project 52 - Week 30 | Red

    Project 52 - Week 30 | Red

I don’t know about any other photographers, but I sincerely dislike the color red. Reds can skew photos to have different hues that expected. Also, sometimes reds cannot be captured accurately because of how vibrant they can seem on the spectrum. So, of course I cringed a little when Red was the prompt for the weekly photo challenge (Project 52) I’m in.

    Project 52 - Week 29 | Nature

    Project 52 - Week 29 | Nature

I was so excited to hear that this week’s Project 52 prompt was nature! I mean, come on, how perfect is that? However, now the pressure was on to snag something good for nature. Honestly, I didn’t make time to go anywhere incredible (my fave spots around Louisville are Red River Gorge, Charlestown State Park, and my newest interest, Clifty Falls), but instead I took the time to enjoy what was close by.

    Project 52 - Week 28 | Abstract

    Project 52 - Week 28 | Abstract

Abstract. I feel like I just jumped back into the mindset that I had throughout college. The assignments were always up for interpretation (ok, not ALL of them, but for the art class assignments), and they challenged you to look at objects/scenes in a different way. For this week’s Project 52 prompt, I turned that thinking cap on again.

    Project 52 - Week 27 | Half and Half

    Project 52 - Week 27 | Half and Half

After trying to catch up from all the weeks that I have missed, I actually intentionally thought about the Project 52 prompt this week – “Half and Half”. And I’ll be honest, I really thought most people would take photos of the creamer for coffee. Too bad I don’t care for coffee. So it was time to get creative.

    Project 52 - Week 26 | Photographer's Choice

A few times each year, I get the great pleasure of seeing my family who lives in Colorado. This year, they drove to Illinois to enjoy a week full of family time. I seriously love when my family comes together and I feel so honored and blessed to be able to say that. This is why, for this week’s Project 52 prompt being my own choice, I chose to capture my family.

    Project 52 - Week 24 | Curves

    Project 52 - Week 24 | Curves

I grew up with two younger brothers and I am blessed to say that we are very close. I blame it on the fact that we grew up in the middle of nowhere, so we had to get along in order to have fun as kids. No complaints here. Actually, they have taught me a lot throughout my life. Being the oldest (and a Taurus), I know that I worked hard to lead the way for my brothers, but could be stubborn to ask for any help.

Project 52 - Week 23 | Show Me The Door

My brothers and I have had the great fortune of growing up in the same home throughout our whole lives. We never moved and that made our home a soft spot in our hearts (ok, I did move when I was little, but I don’t even remember the house because I was 3). Whenever I do come home, the positive energy that I feel sends a warming amount of peace through my body. Which is why this front door of my home worked perfectly for this week’s Project 52 prompt, Show Me The Door.

    Project 52 - Week 22 | State of Mind

    Project 52 - Week 22 | State of Mind

It’s easy to go through life with one mindset and never to open up to other ideas. I know that I was like that for a good portion of my life. But, when I started to understand that God called us to love one another no matter what, I changed my State of Mind. This week, that prompt from the Project 52 photo challenge challenged me to see something outside of what I want to know and accept.

    Project 52 - Week 21 | Green

    Project 52 - Week 21 | Green

For the past two color prompts, I ironically had found and shot pictures of cars that spoke to me. Of course, I wanted to continue this awesome trend, but no car came into my presence that was Green. Instead the prompt from my Project 52 photo challenge worked my nerves up this week. Green, while all around me with foliage, was not an easy find. Until, I got back into my routine of working on my photography business.
